June 19, 2007 Christian Today

An attack has occurred in both a Christian church and school in the Gaza Strip as Hamas leaders condemned the attack and vowed to punish the culprits.

The AP reported that masked gunmen ransacked the Latin Church and Rosary Sisters School and stole a number of computers. In the process, they also destroyed crosses, the Holy Book, pictures of Jesus and furniture and equipment.

CBN reports that Christian leaders within the Gaza Strip held deep concerns about their safety with most wanting to leave. The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attack, describing it as ‘despicable’ and blamed Hamas militiamen for the attack.

Father Manual Musalam, leader of the Latin community told the AP he received a phone call from a former Hamas minister, Bassem Naim, to express his condemnation of the attack on behalf the Hamas leadership. Hamas has denied any involvement in the attack.
