6/30/2006 Philippines (Open Doors) Pastor, Daughter Gunned Down -- While officiating at a wedding Pastor Mocsin L. Hasim received a text message: “Pastor, you will die today.” The pastor had been receiving death threats for months. He brushed it off. After the wedding their bodies were later found near their motorcycle in an isolated area of Zamboanga Del Norte province in western Mindanao of the Philippines. Pastor Hasim had been shot 19 times, mostly in the back. Mercilyn was shot five times.

6/30/2006 Cuba (Compass Direct) Cuba Releases Jailed Pastor - The Rev. Carlos Lamelas, pastor and former national president of the Church of God in Cuba, was unexpectedly freed from jail. The surprise move astonished and delighted many observers following the case.

6/30/2006 Pakistan (Compass Direct) Blasphemy’ Suspect Flees Pakistan - A Pakistani “blasphemy” suspect has appealed for asylum in Holland after facing police torture and attacks by Muslim extremists for his controversial religious views.

7/2/2006 Turkey (BBC News) Catholic Priest Knifed in Turkey -- A French Roman Catholic priest has been stabbed by a knife-carrying attacker in the Turkish Black Sea port of Samsun. The attack on Father Pierre Brunissen, is the third assault on a Catholic priest in Turkey in recent months.

7/3/2006 India (Asia News) Hindu Extremists Burn Down Pentecostal Church - A group of fanatical Hindus have set a Pentecostal Church on fire in Madhya Pradesh, destroying bibles that were inside and threatening to kill the pastor. The pastor of the church escaped unharmed.

7/3/20036 Indonesia (AsiaNews) Sulawesi: Protestant Church attacked in Post - Terror struck Christians in Poso in the Indonesian province of central Sulawesi on when a bomb hit the protestant Pentecost church of Eklesia. The loud explosion that took place in the late evening did not kill or injure anyone, but it kept residents awake around Pulau Seram street, the location of the religious building.

7/3/2006 Vietnam (BosNewsLife) Three Killed As Vietnam Police "Tortures" Montagnard Christians -- At least three Montagnard Degar Christians died and many more were injured in recent weeks because of torture carried out by Vietnamese police.

7/5/2006 Egypt (Ynet news.com) Egypt Primes Children For Jihad -- Egyptian cleric tells children's TV show: Come on to the jihad, encourages child-soldiers to join holy war. During program, made available by the Arabic translation service, the cleric told a story about Muslim children in history keen to "sacrifice" themselves and kill "infidels" for the cause of Islam.

7/5/2006 China (BosNewsLife) China Closes House Churches, Arrests Christian Leaders -- US-based China Aid Association (CAA), a religious rights group which maintains close contacts with house churches, said “a number of house churches from Beijing, Shandong and Guangdong were forced to close by the local authorities" in recent weeks.

7/5/2006 Uzbekistan (MNN) Uzbekistan restricts religious literature -- Uzbekistan has introduced new penalties for the "illegal" production, storage, import and distribution of all forms of religious literature. All religious communities already need permission from the government's Religious Affairs Committee to publish or import material.

7/5/2006 Nigeria (BosNewsLife) Three Killed As Nigeria "Taliban" Fighters Attack Christian Village -- There is concern over violence against Christians in Nigeria. At least three people were killed and 30 others injured when Nigeria's 'Taliban' militia attacked a Christian village in Taraba State.
